This is a super simple and easy tutorial to show you how to install mods in our game, Stardew Valley, on Android devices. So, let’s get started.
Back up your Stardew Valley saves
This is to prevent any errors. If you’ve made significant progress in your game, it would be a shame if something went wrong and all your hard work was lost. That’s why you should go ahead and back up your save. However, here’s the issue: the save files are located in the android/data folder, which Google has restricted access to. If you can access this path, great! If not, you’ll need to follow the guide below, then come back here.
Go to the path android/data/com.chucklefish.stardewvalley using your file manager. Copy the “Save” folder and paste it wherever you like. This is just to create a backup.
Download SMAPI To Install Mods On Stardew Valley Android
First and foremost, it’s crucial to have the game updated to avoid any issues. I’ll provide a link where you can get it either as an APK or from the Google Play Store.
And secondly, something equally essential is the application that will make our game compatible with mods—I’m talking about SMAPI. Click the link to download it:
Install SMAPI and Configuration
Use your file manager to locate the SMAPI APK you downloaded and install it. Grant all the permissions it requests.
Then, tap the “Install” button, wait for it to load, and once it’s done, it will ask you to install the new version of Stardew Valley. Go ahead and install it.
Once installed and opened, it will prompt you to select a folder. Navigate to the root directory and find the folder named “StardewValley,” open it, and then select it. You’ll be asked to do this two more times, so repeat the process each time.
Now, where do we download mods for Stardew Valley? In this case, we recommend the NexusMods website. But if you already have the mods you want to use, then keep reading.
Folder to Install MODs in Stardew Valley
As we mentioned earlier, to install mods, you’ll need to use the folder android/data/com.zane.stardewvalley/files/mods. This folder might be restricted by Android, so check if you can access it. If you can, great—keep reading this article. However, if you can’t access it, you’ll need to follow this guide:
Move or migrate games to SMAPI
Before moving on to the paths where you place the mods, do you remember when I told you to make a backup of your save files?
Now, take that “Save” folder, copy it, and paste it into the following path:
android/data/com.zane.stardewvalley/files/
Put mods:
Let’s go through an example of how to install a mod. In this case, I have one called “Generic Mod Config Menu,” which is compressed. I use
Zarchiver from GooglePlay to open it.
- Press the file and select “Extract here.“
- Cut the extracted folder and paste it into the following path:
android/data/com.zane.stardewvalley/files/mods
Open SMAPI Stardew Valley and enjoy!
Remember, the Stardew Valley app is without mods, but the SMAPI Stardew Valley app is with mods.
